While you can leave the program to decide what the skin tone is, probably a better way is to use the Eyedropper tool and select the skin tone you want. Then it is time to set the mask manually. With using skin tones mask on auto adjustment, you can avoid these unwanted changes, but sometimes the automatic setting will not be enough. If you use too much threshold without the mask, it will change not only the skin, but also the hair, the background and all other things on your photo. The effect will work only on this masked part of the photo. If you put it on Auto, the plug-in will detect skin tones. When you open the Portraiture plug-in, you will see the Skin Tones Mask Panel on the left side of the interface. It will help you to precisely define parts of the photo which will be affected without potential damaging of other regions. If you are working with any portraits or with photos with people in a forefront, using the Imagenomic Portraiture plug-in with his Skin Tones, Mask Panel could be a great addition. With a proper use of masks, you can work on different parts of the picture separately without damaging it. A very important part of the Photoshop tools is the using of layer masks which helps photographers to be more creative and more efficient.
